Created in 1992, the Girls’ Coalition of Greater Boston is a diverse consortium of Boston-area organizations and individuals working together to encourage the healthy development of girls. We expand and enhance the quality of girls' programs by building a sense of community among the adults who work with, mentor, and parent girls. Our members rely on us for training and education about girls’ issues, opportunities to network with other adults interested in girls, and advocacy on behalf of girls in Greater Boston.
Membership in the Girls’ Coalition is open to anyone interested in supporting girls’ healthy development and includes the staff and board of programs that serve girls, researchers, funders, educators, health professionals, parents, advocates, and more.
The Coalition features this community’s knowledge, perspectives, and best practices at professional development forums and training workshops, in our resource journal Girl Matters, and throughout all of our work to benefit girls. The Coalition keeps both members and the public informed through an extensive web site, directory of girls’ services, community postings, and resource referral. We also offer consultation and collaboration for those wanting to connect to the community that serves girls.
We offer the following services and resources: * professional development trainings and networking opportunities; * a resource-rich website that functions as a virtual clearinghouse and training institute; * production of a journal called Girl Matters that functions as a professional publication and a local calendar of events; * notification to our members about cutting-edge research, programs, and policy development; * partnerships with community groups to co-sponsor youth-, education- and service-related events that include representation of the needs, perspectives, and strengths of diverse cohorts of Greater Boston girls; and * resources and referrals on girl matters to the public.
The Girls’ Coalition welcomes submissions for community postings, professional development forums, and our publications. Please contact us with your announcements and ideas. Click here to become a member.
