The Anna B. Stearns Charitable Foundation supports projects and organizations that benefit women, children, and youth.
The foundation makes grants chiefly in the Boston area; grants are normally awarded to organizations serving low-income residents of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, and Chelsea. The foundation makes a few special environmental grants in northern New Hampshire.
Based on the interests of the founder, the trustees support organizations and programs that offer opportunities and other services leading to independence and self-sufficiency for women, children, and youth. The trustees look for efforts that stress prevention rather than remediation, funding programs in education, job training, social services, economic self-sufficiency, and community organizing which will enable women to provide for themselves and for their children.
The trustees have a special interest in supporting the healthy development of girls as the foundation for their adult lives, and fund programs in education, enrichment, mentoring, peer leadership, and public service. The trustees are particularly interested in funding organizations which can demonstrate that they have had a significant impact on the lives of women and children in a cost-effective manner.
The Anna B. Stearns Foundation was the first foundation to support the Girls’ Coalition; we appreciate its belief in our vision, and its ongoing commitment to the Coalition.
