Norine Johnson

Norine Johnson, Ph.D., is a former president of the American Psychological Association (APA). She has extensive experience with and commitment to the well-being of adolescent girls. Norine is senior volume editor of Beyond Appearances: A New Look at Adolescent Girls. She consulted on the 2001 PBS film 5 Girls and is a national lecturer on girls' issues. In her full-time psychological practice in Quincy, Massachusetts, she specializes in issues pertaining to adolescent girls and women. She is a clinical assistant professor in the Boston University Medical School, Department of Neurology. Dr. Johnson has authored more than 95 publications and presentations in areas of women, child, and adolescent psychology. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Wayne State University and did her postdoctoral work in a two-year program for mental health planners/administrators sponsored by Harvard Medical School. Her APA presidential-initiative edited book, Psychology Builds a Healthy World: Opportunities in Research and Practice, was published by APA in 2003.
