Sophia Kim Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth
Sophia Kim is currently an adult advisor for the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth (CAPAY), a youth-run organization that works toward the leadership development and empowerment of Asian American high school students. She graduated from Williams College and then got her Master’s degree in education from UMass Boston. She has become very involved in the Asian American community through her work with CAPAY and other organizations in the Boston area such as the Asian American Resource Workshop and the Massachusetts Asian American Educators’ Association. She is a co-founder of an anti-racism and anti-oppression curriculum program called the Sticky Rice Project, which focuses on bringing together the Asian American community through an understanding of history and systemic definitions of race and racism. Her goals involve bringing out the voice of the Asian American community, working with young people, and organizing around social justice issues and causes. She believes strongly in the agency of people and the community in effecting social change in our society.
Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth
CAPAY is a youth-run organization that brings together Asian American high school students from all over Greater Boston area to build leadership and organizing skills and develop a strong identity as Asian Americans. CAPAY youth organize projects that work to educate other youth, raise awareness about Asian American and social justice issues, and that mobilize youth to build power in numbers.
