In keeping with our STEM theme in preparation for our upcoming funder briefing, we have been sharing great STEM resources for parents and providers! Here's another one: SciGirls !
From the producers of the Emmy Award winning series Newton’s Apple and DragonflyTV comes a brand new science show for–and about–tween girls! SciGirls will spotlight girls across the country using science to make a difference.
Girls who have previously been spotlighted on SciGirls have investigated the safety of drinking water in a rural community, engineered “green” products for their friends and family, and helped migratory animals reach their destination safely, all using science!
This exciting new television series represents an expansion and transformation of DragonflyTV’s national outreach program, also called SciGirls. Supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation's Program for Gender Equity, SciGirls outreach empowered educators and youth leaders to deliver hands-on science encouragement and career guidance to girls in their communities. In its first three years, SciGirls outreach programs served more than 5,000 girls in 25 communities across the country.
The other cool news: SciGirls is looking for amazing girls using science to help their communities to be featured on the show! Do you know a girl--or team of girls--who are science superstars? Click here to learn more about nominating them to be on the show!
Scenes from the SciGrirls pilot is also now available on their website! Click here to check out the first episode!
It’s great to see good information being shared.
