While young women compose the
majority of college-bound students in the Boston area, few choose to
pursue science, math, or technology as viable career options. The
numbers drop even lower among girls from communities of color. However,
several programs are successfully promoting academic interest and
achievement in these subjects among middle and high school girls, with
the long-term objective of bridging the gender gap in related career
fields.
